The Australian government has granted $25.6m of funds to support 20 microgrid feasibility studies as part of Round 2 of the Regional and Remote Communities Reliability Fund. The full list of grant recipients can be found here.
While the projects are Australia-wide, Western Australia is well represented with the following 5 projects:
- Coolgardie Microgrid Feasibility Assessment
- Transitioning Mid West towns to 100% renewable energy (for the Mid West towns Cue, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, Sandstone, Wiluna and Yalgoo)
- Mullewa Microgrid Feasibility Study Project
- Feasibility of Renewable Hydrogen to decarbonise the Esperance Region in WA
- Providing reliable energy solutions to WA Indigenous outstations, analysing 32 legacy Bushlight microgrids in the Kimberley region
On a related note, the Australian Microgrid Centre of Excellence (AMCOE) is also offering pro-bono microgrid feasibility studies, an initiative to provide small rural communities who are considering installing a microgrid with professional technical assistance.
