Australian Potash has appointed PWR Hybrid Australia as the Preferred Proponent to build, own and operate a ~35 MW renewable energy microgrid for their Lake Wells sulphate of potash project in Western Australia.
The indicative install capacities of the microgrid components are as follows:
- 4.5 MW solar PV
- 9 MW wind
- 9 MW battery energy storage system (BESS)
- 10.7 MW gas-fired generation
- 2 MW diesel generation
Australian Potash and PWR Hybrid are still in the process of finalising the design of the microgrid and signing a Power Purchase Agreement. The microgrid will be developed in a staged approach, with the thermal generation expected to be completed within 15 months after the final investment decision.
The company also noted that the gas engine selection will include the capability to operate using hydrogen to facilitate zero emission operations using green hydrogen.
